The Ultimate Alaska Packing Guide!

10 Things to check into in your suitcase!

1. Bottle it up

Take a refillable water bottle/flask. You'll be off hiking glaciers, climbing mountains, hunting for bears and discovering the final frontier. Make sure you keep hydrated and pack a bottle of water, which can be refilled from most ships these days.

2. Make Mary Poppins Proud

Dont forget that umbrella! The weather can change in an instant or you can get all four seasons in a day. Dont get caught out, as us English say... take a brolly with you! You'll find a a complimentary umbrella on some cruise lines depending on the category of stateroom you're in.

3. Love Bites Only!

Mind those mozzies! Although you're not in a hot climate those little biting bugs are still ready and waiting to drink your blood. Dont wake up with an irritating itch the next day, ensure you put on some insect repellent. We've teamed up with Love Bites Only who have lovingly crafted an all natural repellent. 4. Slip, Slop, Slap!

Dont be fooled by the weather, even with cloudy skies you can catch the rays off the sea, snow and ice. Make sure to put some SPF on your face and any areas of your body not covered by clothes, you'll be glad you did. We can personally recommend Kiehls Ultra Light UV Defense or Ultra Facial Cream SPF 30.  Checkout Kiehls in the UK now for 20% off

5. Magnetic Attraction

This is a  staple for any cruise! The walls onboard every ship are made of metal; this means you can magnetically attach anything! We take about 10 magnetic hooks each cruise to hang bits and bobs to keep the room tidy. Your door is also made of metal if you want to hang any signs on it :)

6. These Boots Are Made For Walking

Take comfy shoes, you're going to be getting your steps in. Alaska is an adventure and you're going to want to explore all of it! Pack your trainers, sneakers, walking boots or anything to ensure you dont bring home a blister as an Alaskan souvenir!

7. Here comes the sun!

Just like our SPF tip, it's sunny up there! (Sometimes) You'll want to make sure you have a pair of 'sunnies' with you to protect your eyes from the bright white snow and ice reflecting the sun.

8. Get Snappy

Pop that memory catcher in the bag! wether its a  traditional camera, digital, 360, waterproof or Polaroid or all five make sure you capture those memories! We're going to be making use of of our Meta Glasses whilst tracking on the glacier...

9. Eye Spy With My Little Eye!

Pack some binoculars. Some cruise lines have these in your room, be sure to get out on deck and spot the wildlife as you sail up the inside passage and into and out of ports.

10. Take the plunge

Pack a swim suit. Not for those icy waters, but for those hot tubs on deck where you can watch the world go by, champagne in hand!

...and dont forget to pack your spirit of adventure as you explore the final frontier!

We're off on our Alaskan adventure exploring Skagway, Ketchikan, Juneau and Glacier Bay with Holland America Line from Vancouver. Make sure you follow along on instagram from 09 August.
