Juneau

Juneau, Alaska—where epic adventure meets small-town charm. After a thrilling helicopter ride that dropped us onto the breathtaking Mendenhall Glacier, we trekked across the icy expanse, feeling like explorers on the edge of the world. This little Alaskan capital has quite the story too—once a booming gold rush town, now it’s a hub for adventurers and nature lovers. And while the famous Red Dog Saloon is a crowd favourite, we discovered the Griz Bar—a hidden gem where the views are as good as the craft beers. Alfresco seating, glacier-capped mountains in the background, and a vibe that’s all about kicking back and soaking in that Alaskan wilderness. Dont forget to stop by the whale statue, you've not been to Juneau if you dont!

The Griz Bar

Forget the typical tourist traps of the red dock saloon and the crab shack; head here instead. The Griz bar has cold local brews, alfresco seating with heat lamps and fire pits, comfort foods like cheese curd tater tots and views across the harbour towards your ship. Find out more here

The Griz Bar

You've not been to Juneau if you dont make the short coastal trail walk to Tahku, the Alaska Whale Sculpture. a life sized bronze sculpture of a breaching hump back whale. Take a selfie and be sure to wait for the fountains to turn on for the best effect!

Typical Spots

Many make a bee line for the Red Dog Saloon and the Crab Shack. although we dont want to knock them, the crab is expensive and frozen (from Russia) and we're not really shots people, to took a pass on the famous 'Duck Fart'.

Tips to help you have a great time on shore.

Uber?

Yes, uber is available, but most tours will provide transport. Its recommended to take a local bus and then walk if you want to see the Mendenhall Glacier

US dollar - Banks and ATMs are widely available.

Dock Side?

Most ships dock in the heart of Juneau, when it's busy some ships will tender, these are normally the ships that spend the least time or leave early. E.g. Carnival when we were there.
