Puerto Plata

Must do's

Things we did and we think you should too...

...and chill

As our first port we chose to relax at Tanyo bay in the port area. Enjoy the resort built just for the cruise ships that dock. Choose from swim up bars, cocktail bars, local shops, art installations, a lazy river and pools with views out towards your vessel.

Ascend

Hop aboard the Puerto Plata cable car, also known as the Teleférico, for an epic journey to the top of Mount Isabel de Torres. Enjoy stunning views of the city and coastline as you ascend over 2,500 feet. At the summit, explore botanical gardens, snap pics with the iconic Christ the Redeemer statue, and soak in breathtaking vistas. It's a must-do adventure for nature lovers and thrill-seekers.

Get Snappy

Take a leisurely walk around the city and marvel at the Instagram-worthy street art, such as the iconic pink street, whimsical umbrella installations, and eye-catching Dominican flag displays

Top Tips

Tips to help you have a great time on shore.

Uber?

No - but you can easily hail a cab from the port. Remember to agree a price before jumping in! Most Taxi's are cash only.

Currency?

US dollars are widely accepted - ATMs are available in port or you can pay with card. Most resort hotels also have ATMs

Dock Side?

You’ll dock at one of two ports in Puerto Plata:

  • Amber cover - A self contained dock and resort which was built for the Carnival Cruise corporation. Their family of cruise lines such as Princess, Holland America, Cunard, P&O, Carnival and AIDA will dock here. Unfortunately is 20 miles from Purrto Plata; maybe it’s an incentive to by an onboard excursion?
  • Taino Bay - All other lines will dock here. For those of you that do; it’s the newest of the two, a resort within the port and walking distance to just about everything in Puerto Plata.

ATMs, shops, bars and tourist information can be found in both ports.
